چکیده

Acoustic wave propagation and attenuation in catalytic converters are investigated in the present study. The relationships for wave propagation in a catalytic monolith are derived first and then coupled to the wave propagation in tapered ducts which are commonly placed at either end of the monolith. Analytical and finite element approaches are used to solve the resulting coupled system of equations. Theoretical predictions are then compared with the experimental results for two different ~one circular and the other oval! catalyst configurations. The attenuation characteristics of the catalyst with and without the monolith are also investigated. © 1998 Acoustical Society of America. @S0001-4966~98!03801-6#

Rayleigh Wave in an Initially Stressed Transversely Isotropic Dissipative Half-Space

The governing equations of a transversely isotropic dissipative medium are solved analytically to obtain the surface wave solutions. The appropriate solutions satisfy the required boundary conditions at the stress-free surface to obtain the frequency equation of Rayleigh wave. The numerical values of the non-dimensional speed of Rayleigh wave speed are computed for different values of frequency...

The Effect of Dynamic Permeability on Velocity and Intrinsic Attenuation of Compressional Waves in Sand

Stress waves contain useful information about the properties of porous materials; they can be recovered through different non-destructive testing methods such as crosswell, vertical seismic profile, borehole logging as well as sonic tests. In all these methods, it is crucial to assess the effects of frequency on wave attributes including velocity and intrinsic attenuation. The dependency of per...

Wave propagation and absorption of sandwich beams containing interior dissipative multi-resonators.

In this study, a sandwich beam with periodic multiple dissipative resonators in the sandwich core material is investigated for broadband wave mitigation and/or absorption. An analytical approach based on the transfer matrix method and Bloch theorem is developed for both infinite and finite sandwich structures. Wave attenuation constants are theoretically obtained to examine the effects of vario...

Acoustic attenuation performance of perforated dissipative mufflers with empty inlet/outlet extensions

The acoustic behavior of perforated dissipative circular mufflers with empty extended inlet/outlet is investigated in detail by means of a two-dimensional (2D) axisymmetric analytical approach that matches the acoustic pressure and velocity across the geometrical discontinuities, and the finite element method (FEM). The complex characteristic impedance, wavenumber, and perforation impedance are...
